Prologue - Daimon Racnodom

In the offices of the Witches 5, hidden in the darkest recesses of the administration level of the Mugen Academy, agents of the Death Busters were supposed to be working tirelessly towards the goal of awakening the Messiah of Silence and their ultimate victory.

The Witches 5 no longer numbered five. Eugial was presumed dead after her repeated failures and Mimet's betrayal. While Tellu, Viluy, and Cyprine quietly and diligently worked on their own projects, Mimet was nominally in charge of obtaining the best Pure Heart Crystals. Unfortunately for the Death Busters, Mimet was flighty and obsessed with celebrities. This had already been the cause of some shoddy work on her part, and was unlikely to change.

“Kobayashi-sama” Mimet sighed as she gazed lovingly at a magazine spread of a rising television star. Taketo Kobayashi was the male lead on a popular new show called 'Monster Detective Agency', and was astonishingly attractive. Thus distracted, she did not notice the phone ringing.

“Mimet-kun!”
The sound of the Professor shouting into the answer-machine broke Mimet out of her reverie and also caused her to fall off her chair amid a shower of magazines and notebooks.
“I hope for your sake that you are working extremely hard on finding our next target” the Professor continued at a more reasonable volume, though the menace in his voice was clear, “You know how important it is to find suitable pure hearts to provide the energy to awaken our beloved Messiah of Silence. If I find that you are not committed to the Death Busters' cause, then I will be forced to reconsider our relationship. I would hate to have to dispose of you, Mimet-kun, but we must make swift progress. I want an appropriate target, and I do not want the Sailor Senshi to interfere again”

As the Professor's message came through, Mimet scrambled to recover her dignity and get her papers in some semblance of order. She waited until he had finished speaking before phoning him back.
“I'm sorry, Professor” she squeaked, “I-I have a target in mind. I will send you the details in just a moment”
Her eyes darted back and forth, desperately seeking something useful, before coming to rest on the image of Taketo Kobayashi. She would probably get in trouble for suggesting another celebrity, but she knew that she had no other possibilities to offer. It would be a tragedy to end his life, but at least this way she could meet him and express her admiration and desire before she took his pure heart.


In his laboratory, Professor Tomoe raised an eyebrow at the details being sent to him by Mimet. Another celebrity, ostensibly selected for the 'passion of his performance', though just as likely because the silly girl was attracted to him. Still, Taketo Kobayashi seemed healthy enough to be worth the attempt.
“Well done, Mimet-kun” he said approvingly, “I will send you a Daimon perfectly tailored to young Taketo Kobayashi. Prove to me that I can rely on you. Bring me his pure heart. Yee ha ha ha hah ha ha ha ha ha!”

He hung up the phone and got to work. Noting that the target played a police officer, he placed a truncheon and a pair of handcuffs into the Daimon Preparation Chamber, then carefully tended to the Daimon egg that would be combined with them. As he worked, he did not see that a spider had crawled into the chamber. It was still there, unnoticed, when the egg was added and the machinery activated. Little did he know, but a very different Daimon to what was expected was now being sent to Mimet...

A few minutes later, Mimet arrived at the studio where Monster Detective Agency was filmed. As was usually the case when she operated in disguise, she wore a knee-length overcoat, a red headscarf, dark glasses, and seemingly very little else. Carrying a briefcase containing the Daimon that would steal Taketo Kobayashi's pure heart, she began to search for him, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible, and failing miserably.



“Chibi-Usa!!!”
Usagi's angry shout rang through the Tsukino household as she found her future daughter finishing off a strawberry cake that had not just been for her.
“How could you eat that whole cake by yourself?” Usagi demanded, “That was for everyone!”
“You're just mad that I beat you to it” Chibi-Usa retorted, “You can't resist Ikuko-mama's baking either. I saved you from getting fat!”

“How dare you?!” Usagi cried.
Chibi-Usa responded by poking her tongue out and pulling one of her eyelids down, provoking Usagi to chase her from the kitchen, through the living room, and up the stairs, where the chase was ended by Usagi tripping over Luna.

“That hurt!” Usagi cried, clasping both hands over her nose and bursting into tears.
“Try being the one hit by your feet” Luna muttered half to herself. She wished Usagi would act her age more often. How was she ever supposed to become Queen if she kept bawling and crying over the smallest thing? Before she could try to calm Usagi down, the doorbell rang. Luna started down the stairs straight away while Usagi dried her eyes before following.

Usagi was still rubbing her nose when she answered the door to find Rei and Setsuna standing there. Setsuna was wearing a lilac business suit and skirt ensemble, while Rei was dressed more casually in pink overalls over a white t-shirt.
“Lost a fight with Chibi-Usa again, I see” Rei teased, earning a glare from Usagi.
“Rei-chan, you meanie”
“Oh, so I was right?”
“Not even close!”

They both started to razz each other until Setsuna loudly cleared her throat.
“Princess” she said gravely, “The enemy are on the move again. Haruka, Michiru, and Jasumin are tracking them. Though Haruka would insist that she doesn't need help, I fear that the Daimon we will face today will be more dangerous than even the Death Busters expect. All of us may be needed to defeat it”

“Then I'm coming too” Chibi-Usa declared from behind Usagi. Everyone nodded their agreement.
“We can call Ami-chan and the others on the way” Rei suggested.
“Right” Usagi assented, “Let's go”
The four of them and Luna broke into a run, heading towards town.
